Dr. Samir Sodha Discussing Our Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery Program:
Treatment of Hand Injuries and Disorders
The hand is a complex mechanical system of muscles, tendons and nerves anchored by 27 bones and 15 joints. Only a hand surgeon can diagnose the problem and treat it so you can get back to your everyday life. Orange Regional Medical Center specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with hand injuries and disorders affecting the hand.
We diagnose and treat problems such as:
- Acute hand injuries like fractures and sprains
- Lacerations requiring stitches (of the nerve, tendon and blood vessels)
- Tendon inflammation (tendonitis)
- Arthritis and arthritic joint pain (osteoarthritis)
- Nerve compression (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
- Congenital problems, growths or tumors (Dupuytren’s disease, Ganglion cysts)
- Reconstruction of old injuries
Our patient-centered approach helps you find the treatment that works for your needs, goals and lifestyle.

Your Treatment and Procedure Options
After a thorough examination and conversation with a specialist, we explain the options for improving and healing your condition. In many cases, non-surgical treatments can provide dramatic relief and increase mobility. Sometimes surgery gives you the best chance to improve the function of your hand, wrist, arm, or elbow. We take the time to make sure you understand your treatment options, the associated recovery periods, the role of therapy and your honest objectives and desires.
Traumas and Advanced Techniques
We bring state-of-the-art techniques, proven procedures and multidisciplinary diagnoses to all the most challenging injuries. Constantly keeping up to date, our physicians are watchful of new innovations, equipment, ideas and are prepared to serve patients with severe trauma, complex surgery and advanced treatment.
We treat all forms of chronic upper extremity conditions, many of which can be painful and restrict your lifestyle. From Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Osteoarthritis and Tennis Elbow, we offer the knowledge and skillset you can rely on for an appropriate treatment plan. Whenever possible, mostly dependent on your specific condition, we offer various treatment options, including non-surgical techniques such as injection, splinting, and/or therapy. If surgery is necessary, you can feel confident knowing that our physicians will thoroughly explain all of your options so that the correct path is taken to return you to your active lifestyle as quickly as possible.
The hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder are critical to athletic performance and sports injuries present unique challenges and recovery objectives. Our physicians bring advanced sports medicine to the diagnosis and treatment of sports related injuries. We routinely craft custom splints, removable casts and other protective items that breathe, can be cleaned and are lightweight.
It's a simple fact: people get hurt at work...after all most people spend the bulk of their waking hours at work, so statistically, injuries will happen. From workers who suffer repetitive motion injuries to workers who suffer traumatic injuries, the range of work-related injuries is a wide one. With upper extremity related work injuries occurring regularly in every work force, Orange Regional’s physicians are trained to assist our patients.
Diagnosing and treating hand, wrist, elbow and upper arm conditions often requires imaging studies. We utilize advanced equipment for low-dosage radiographic imaging. Our network is fully digital and we generate digital copies on a CD if requested, making life easier for our patients and their treating physicians.
Rehabilitation and Therapy
After injury or surgery to the hand, wrist, arm, elbow or shoulder, patients must re-engage nerves and relearn what was once automatic. Orange Regional's Outpatient Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive range of high-quality services and state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment. We take the time to talk with you about your condition, fully explain your treatment plan, discuss all options available and provide care on a one-to-one basis.
