In October 2001, Orange Regional Medical Center celebrated the opening of the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center in the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion, 75 Crystal Run Road in Middletown. Designed with the convenience of patients in mind, the Center provides a comprehensive breast care program with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and services, together with clinicians expert in their field - centralized in one convenient location. The Moody Breast Center offers state-of-the-art, non-invasive and minimally invasive diagnostic technology including: Screening and Diagnostic Mammography, Breast Ultrasound, Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), Ultrasound guided FNA/Vacuum-assisted Biopsy, Stereotactic Vacuum-assisted Breast Biopsy, and Galactograms. The Center is staffed by Board-certified radiologists specializing in Women's Imaging, experienced pathologists who work in the Center's on-site pathology suite to perform and interpret biopsies, as well as other specialized technologists and professionals.

Most recently the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center was designated by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and is fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, by Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

Fine Needle Aspiration:  Ultrasound guidance is used when the lesion is visible on ultrasound and can or cannot be felt (palpable), and is usually performed by a Radiologist. If the lesion can be felt, the procedure may performed by the Pathologist.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy:  Orange Regional Medical Center offers a stereotactic mammography and breast biopsy system that can eliminate the need for surgical biopsies through minimally invasive techniques. The stereotactic breast biopsy system assists in the diagnosis of early-stage cancer by providing women with an alternative to surgical biopsy. Unlike traditional surgical biopsy, which requires a large skin incision, and unlike core-needle biopsy, which requires multiple insertions of the device, the system requires only a single insertion and minimizes injury to the surrounding healthy tissue. The procedure requires only a local anesthetic and can be performed on an outpatient basis.

Ultrasound Guided Core Biopsy: This procedure is performed by the radiologist using ultrasound guidance.

Open Bore MRIBreast MRI and Breast MRI Biopsy:  Performed on our high-field Open Bore MRI located adjacent to the Breast Center, this Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) technology is for women at high risk for developing breast cancer. Breast MRI and MRI-guided biopsy is a powerful tool for breast-cancer screening which helps patients get earlier and more precise treatments.

Digital Mammography:  Orange Regional Medical Center has a new ally in the fight against breast cancer - full field digital mammography. This new technology incorporates revolutionary imaging technology that provides incredibly sharp images, is quicker than traditional mammography, has lower radiation exposure, and assists in the early diagnosis of breast cancer.

Digital mammography is like conventional mammography, compression is still needed though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call backs. Digital takes less than half the time of conventional since there's no waiting for film to develop. The crystal-clear digital images are expertly reviewed by fellowship trained, Board-certified radiologists specializing in breast imaging at Orange Regional's Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center. To assist the radiologist in making even more accurate diagnosis, Orange Regional Medical Center also uses the Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) to provide a "second read" of the mammogram by a computer.

Women, age 40 and over, should have a screening mammogram every year, according to the American Cancer Society. Early detection of breast cancer is vital in the successful treatment of breast cancer.

Ask your doctor if digital mammography is right for you. Call 1-866-ORMC-TESTor (1-866-676-2837) today and get your mammography tomorrow at one of our convenient outpatient locations.
