Inpatients - The Alcohol and Substance Abuse programs at the Jeanne E. Jonas Behavioral Health Unit at the Arden Hill Campus in Goshen offer detoxification for adult patients who have alcoholism or other chemical dependencies. Detoxification allows patients safe medical withdrawal from the abusing substance. Patients are encouraged to make a commitment to abstinence and to develop continuing care plans.
To also help patients, the (Hospital Education & Referral Services) H.E.R.S. Program provides a method of systematic case finding to identify early alcohol and other drug problems in adults. If a patient screens positive on an Admission Assessment, the patient receives an assessment from the Alcoholism/Substance Abuse Coordinator who attempts to educate, counsel and refer patients for ongoing evaluation and treatment.
The H.E.R.S. Program also includes a method for screening patients who wish to stop smoking. All patients receive smoking cessation literature upon admission.
Many of the patients admitted to the Behavioral Health Unit have concurrent alcohol and other substance abuse problems, so a MICA (Mentally Ill Chemically Abusing) is used to describe persons with a psychiatric disorder that coexists with an addictive disorder.
At the Jeanne E. Jonas Behavioral Health Unit, we understand that addiction and psychiatric disorders, although separate illnesses, do interact with each other and require specific treatment.
In order to help patients with these special needs, a MICA program has been established within the Behavioral Health Unit. This track is formed by using a interdisciplinary team which works with the patient focusing on emotional stabilization and recovery from chemical dependency. We provide compassionate, comprehensive treatment by offering the following:
- Medical evaluation of the patient
- Psychiatric evaluation, treatment and stabilization
- Detoxification from abusing substance
- Pharmacological assessment and stabilization of the patient
The Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
